International Women's Day celebrated with enthusiasm

On 8th March, 2018, the International Women’s Day was marked by organizing rally jointly with Ministry of Women and other likeminded organizations. The march was filled with enthusiastic participants — holding placards and shouting slogans — addressing various issues faced by women. Individuals, women activists, women networks, women with disabilities,  women security personnel, students, men backing women issues, Nepali traditional bands, representatives from national and international organizations, media personnel, teachers among others walked together in solidarity. The rally began from Bhrikutimandap and passed through Bhadrakali temple, Sahid gate, New Road and converged into a corner meet at the Shanti Batika in Ratnapark.


The program was made successful through the joint efforts and attendance of more than 10,000 representatives.

Similarly, in the event, FPAN successfully conducted “she decides” campaign by displaying messages such as -

  • When she decides the world is better, stronger and safe,
  • She has the right to information, to health care, to choose, 
  • She decides to speak out and bring an end to violence and abuse,
  • Motherhood is a choice. She has the right to decide when she is ready,
  • She decides whether, when and with whom to marry, to have Children, etc

In the program, all the FPAN female staff and more than 50 youth members were actively involved. It was a successful effort for displaying “She Decides” messages which made the event even more successful and attractive.

After rally the main event was organized in Rashtriya Sabha Griha where Rt. Honorable Vice President, Nanda Kishor Pun attended the event as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Hon.Tham Maya Thapa called for women to be united to end violence against women.
