World Population Day - 2018

July 8, 2018:

On July 8, 2018, the side event of World Population Day was marked by organizing national workshop on “Family Planning is a Human Right” at FPAN program Hall. The chief Guest of the program was Honorable Ms. Padma Kumari Aryal, State Minister for Health and Population. Special guests were Hon.Dr. Usha Jha - Member, National planning Commission, Ms. Lubna Baqi- Country Representative of UNFPA, Dr. Tara Nath Pokhrel- Director, Family health Division, Ministry of Health and Mr. Varun Anand- Regional Director, IPPF, SARO. The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Chattra Bahadur Giri, president of   FPAN.

 

 

 

 

 

The objective of the event was to mark the significance of population trends, to raise awareness of population issues with focus on the importance of issues related to population in the country context and importance of investment family planning.

Nearly 160 individuals representing from government and non-government organizations, UN agencies, youth organizations, academic institutions, key population led organizations, INGOs and media people were participated in the workshop.

On the occasion, Hon. State Minister for Health and Population made a written commitment to increase national funding for family planning program by at least 7 percent annually and to expand the service delivery points to increase access to quality family planning information and services for to reduction of maternal deaths and decrease high unmet need for modern contraception as per commitment made by Nepal Government in FP 2020 Pledges. She also committed to protect and uplift women’s Reproductive Health Rights by approving the Reproductive Health Bill (RH bill) into law as soon as possible.

 

Two papers relating to Family Planning entitled “Investment in Family Planning” and “Family Planning a national priority program: an overview” were presented in the workshop by Director General of FPAN Mr. KP Bista and Ghanashyam Pokharel, FP focal persons at Family Health Division (MOHP) respectively.

During the workshop, FPAN youth members were actively involved in I decide Campaign also by taking photos of Minister, policy makers, Donors, partners etc. on I decide photo frame and briefed them about I decide campaign.

Health Camp

Mobile Health camp was conducted on the occasion of world population day on 5 July 2018, in Thankot, Kathmandu. Approximately 300 women benefited with LARC, VIA and STI services.
