Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN) Banke branch, jointly with District Health Office, Banke; CARE Nepal, USAID’s Adolescents Reproductive Health (ARH) program, and Nepal Health Journalist Association, organized the media interaction program in Lumbini Province on May 2, 2024. Similarly, Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN) Surkhet branch, jointly with District Health Office, Surkhet; CARE Nepal, USAID’s Adolescents Reproductive Health (ARH) program and Nepal Health Journalist Association, organized the media interaction program in Karnali Province on May 2, 2024. Both programs were organized, specifically to provide legal awareness on safe abortion and effective implementation of safe abortion act, child marriage, safe motherhood, unmet need of family planning (FP), Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) to media journalists. Thirty journalists from each province, altogether sixty journalists participated in the program. FPAN Branch Managers, Rashmi Shrestha in Banke and Shekhar Dhamala in Surkhet, presented FPAN’s program and contributions in increasing access to safe abortion, safe motherhood services, FP and SRH services and efforts for creating enabling environment and favourable SRHR policies. During the program, participants were also informed on equality of marriage and made aware to understand the sensitivity of news on this. Most newspapers in Nepal still deny publishing the article on rights of sex workers and LGBTIQ. So, all the participants were sensitized on importance of media to make people aware of SRHR and the important role that media can play to bring positive change to recognize, respect and utilize SRHR of all. The news about these programs were published in different local and national news portals such as Setokhari, Durshanchar, Health Today etc.
